About Me

I teach Pre-k to 6th-grade art and technology teacher in two elementary buildings, Lowden and Mechanicsville. My husband and I are originally from the Southern part of the Philippine archipelago, in city of Zamboanga. We are blessed with two girls, Claire and Bea. I received my degree in Art Education at the University of Northern Iowa and graduated in 2004. I'm now in my 19th year of teaching. Some of my lessons are borrowed from other great art blogs, and I changed them to fit my students' need. I love sharing lessons, learning, and
creating art with my students. Every day is an adventure!

Teaching Philosophy

As a teacher, I encourage my students to formulate their creative expression with a high level of thinking by allowing them to work individually or in groups to build confidence and respect others’ opinions. The Students will appreciate constructive criticism. If students are new to the critique process, I find various ways to promote active participation. My job is a facilitator of the students’ critical thinking. I want my students to take risks in art making and discover their talents while enhancing their knowledge of visual arts. Also, I provide my students with technical skills and knowledge of materials through demos in order for them to produce original quality artwork. It is so inspiring and rewarding watching my students grow and develop their artistic voices.

Art education will enhance students’ creative ability, aesthetic judgment, verbal and nonverbal communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and cultural and global awareness. I believe that through art experiences in my class, students will take away the importance of visual arts in today’s society and how it contributes to their academic success. Thus, providing students with a greater ability to deal with school and life in general.
