For this year's kindergarten Thanksgiving activity, I thought of doing something different with my Kindergartners. As for my anticipatory set, I bought a bag of candy corn and showed it to the class. Candy corns fascinate me because of its taste and colors. I see them everywhere during Halloween and Thanksgiving. I found tons of interesting information about this particular candy. Candy corn is a sweet replicate of dried Indian corn kernels. This year, candy companies produced nearly 35 million pounds of candy corn. The traditional candy corn has three stripes- yellow at the top, orange at the center, and white at the bottom. I had the students color their paper with the 3 colors with oil pastels. Then, I gave them turkey parts. They turned the candy corn into turkey feathers! I didn't even tell them what to do with it. One student came up and showed me her turkey. I used it as a model to show to the class. I was not surprised. My students are so creative. So proud of them!
