3rd Grade: Weaving

Objectives: The students will be able to…

1.  identify the meaning of loom, warp, and weft.
2. understand and use the “under, over” weaving technique
3. create a weaving using variety of yarn creating patterns.

Materials:

Various colors of yarn
Cardboard of mat board for the looms
Plastic weaving needles
Beads
Yarn
String
Scissors

This was the first time I taught yarn weaving with yarn. It was very time consuming. Most of these kids do not know how to tie a knot, so I ended up doing all the knotting. This is doable for 5th or 6th graders.
