1st Grade: Rainbow Fish

Objectives: The students will be able to...

  1.  attend to a storytelling of The Rainbow Fish
  2. discuss some of the characters, setting, and plot.
  3. connect ideas from the story to their lives.
  4. use their own ideas and feelings when creating artwork.
  5. create a rainbow fish by painting and coloring with pattern designs..

Materials:
Fish Template
Markers
Black sharpies
Stamp markers
Scissors
Tempera paint
Oil pastels

Today, we read the book Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.

I traced the fish template on white paper. I individually drew designs on the fish for students to color. Some of them requested what design they wanted on their fish. After coloring, they cut out their fish and glue them on blue paper. For the polka dots, they used the stamp markers. They love putting dots in their background.
This group of kids colored their fish and painted their backgrounds.
