Pre-k: Straws and Foam Relief Sculpture

The Pre-k were learning about sculptures. Students made a relief sculpture using straws and toothpicks on packing foam. This is a great up-cycling project.

Materials:
Toothpicks
Packing foam
Straws
Neon Paint

First, they painted the foam with neon paint. I added some glue to make the color adhere more onto the foam. The next day, students poked toothpicks on the foam and attached straw on each end. This activity was actually easy for them to do. They really enjoyed twisting and bending the straws. Some of them told me that they made playground while others made buildings.
