Two-Views Self-Portrait

Objectives: The students will be able to...

  1. identify the Picasso portraits that are painted in the cubist style.
  2. identify the differences in the Picasso portraits that are realistic from those that are abstract.
  3. Students will practice drawing facial features
  4. create a portrait in style of Pablo Picasso.

Students conducted a research about Pablo Picasso in the computer lab and watched a short biography video. I traced their profile by having them stand up in front of the board with paper behind them, taped on the board. They drew a frontal view to finish up the portrait. Then they drew shapes on the picture to break up the image. Oil pastels were used with tempera paint.
