This was the first time my second graders worked with soft pastels. They were thrilled about getting messy. We discussed how to transform a shape into form. In this case, we drew circles or ovals for the pumpkin. We added a line of black to get the shade of orange, then add white for the tints. The shape transformed into form by adding shadows and night lights on the pumpkin.
Learning Goals: I can...
- identify tints and shades
- recognize warm colors
- draw pumpkins
- use chalk pastel properly
- tell the various uses of pumpkins
- tell the history of pumpkins (how they were used in the past and today)
