Complementary Color Shapes

The 1st graders are studying complementary colors. They traced a shape or two for this project. They painted the shaped with one color then paint the background with its color complement. They reversed the same colors on the other side of their paper.

Learning Goals:
  • I can tell that complementary colors are colors directly opposite each other on the basic color wheel, such as red and green, yellow and purple, or orange and blue. When placed next to each other, they produce the strongest contrast and when mixed together they produce grey-scale colors.
  • I can hold a paintbrush the right way, control where my paint goes, and create shapes.
